The Tightrope

Do you have the courage to walk on the tightrope?
To whistle and sing?
Even dance? It may swing.

It might shake, it will bend.
On the tightrope you mend
the fear that kept guard on the ground down below,
that caged you from walking this rope long ago.

As the wind whistles past,
with your feet trembling fast,
you may wish to turn back,
though, at last, you’re on track.

Just open your eyes, wake the hopes that have slept,
and live in your dreams as you take the next step.

Do you have the courage to walk on the tightrope?
Not everyone tries.
For it’s high in the skies.

But a worthwhile dare
to have lived way up there.
Where the air that you breathe is a gift every day
and your goal is a challenge each step of the way.

To have lived to defy
every tale, every lie.
Every safe, selfish mold
that your onlookers sold.

Will you cross the tightrope, or fall as you try?
There’s just one way to live and no better to die.
